Violet 23 is a type of synthetic organic chemical used as a colorant or pigment to color inks, textiles, plastics, coatings, and other materials. Its crude form (“crude violet 23”) has no use or intended purpose other than to produce “finished violet 23” in the finished forms of “presscake” or “dry color.” Presscake consists of approximately 30 to 40 percent solids and 60 to 70 percent water, and dry color is pure pigment. Presscake can be used to make pigment dispersions or it may be processed (dried) into dry color.
